In conjunction with the NHL's Celebrating Black History league-wide initiative, the Philadelphia Flyers announced additional plans for the team's annual Black History Month celebration throughout the month of February.

During home games in February and starting with tonight's game against the New York Islanders, the Flyers will highlight individuals and organizations from Philadelphia's Black community through in-game video spotlights and appearances. As fans walk through the main concourse, they will also have the opportunity to interact with several of the organizations and learn more about their work. Guests from each organization will also be provided with tickets for their respective games.

The list of organizations to be recognized is below:

February 6: The African American Museum in Philadelphia
Founded in 1976 in celebration of the nation's Bicentennial, the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) is the first institution funded and built by a major municipality to preserve, interpret and exhibit the heritage of African Americans.
February 9: Heights Philadelphia
Heights Philadelphia connects Philly youth to careers and college with a network of people who believe - and invest - in their talents.
February 11: Urban Affairs Coalition
The Urban Affairs Coalition unites government, business, neighborhoods, and individual initiative to improve the quality of life in the region, build wealth in urban communities, and solve emerging issues.
February 12: Urban League of Philadelphia
Urban League of Philadelphia is the local affiliate of the National Urban League, one of the nation's oldest and largest community-based movements dedicated to empowering underserved urban communities.
February 24: Jack and Jill of America
Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2 - 19, dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty.

Additionally, through the Community Ticket Program, the Flyers will host special guests from organizations including the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and Local Divine 9 Sororities and Fraternities, at home games throughout the month.

The Flyers organization will also spotlight Black team employees through video profiles which will be shown during home games in February and on Flyers' social media accounts.

The team will also sponsor a trip to the African American Museum in Philadelphia for young members of Heights Philadelphia and members of the Flyers' front office.

Ahead of their game against the Montreal Canadiens on February 24, the Flyers will host Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education for a special panel for student-athletes featuring Brandon Graham, Philadelphia Eagles defensive end and Snider Board Member; Sandy McCarthy, former Philadelphia Flyer; Lyric Hamilton, Flyers Director of Events; Everett Jackson, Arena Host for the Philadelphia Flyers; and Jeff Scott, Vice President of Community Development and Growth for the NHL.

Last year, the Flyers became the first NHL team to partner with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to establish a first-of-its-kind, multi-year agreement to award college academic scholarships for local, college-bound high school students who are involved with the sport of hockey.
