1. AULD LANG SYNE
It's the 150th all-time meeting between the two franchises who played their very first game against each other in 1967... The club also played their first New Year's Eve game against each other on Dec. 31, 1967 - a game in which the Flyers won, 9-1, and was the only NYE game the Flyers have ever hosted in Philadelphia... This is the second straight year the Flyers will play on New Year's Eve and 20th overall contest on this date... Of the previous 19 New Year's Eve games in Flyers history, the club owns an all-time record of 9-6-2-2 and a 7-2-1-2 mark in their last 12 games on Dec. 31.
2. THE DECADE THAT WAS
The Flyers were the first team to play in the decade at the Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2010, and they will be the last team to play in the decade with a 9 p.m. puck drop on the east coast... The Flyers will be going for their 396th win in their 787th game of the decade with a record of 395-284-107 and 897 points in 786 games... They've scored 2,249 goals, which ranks seventh among all NHL teams, and 532 power-play goals, which ranks fourth in the NHL... Claude Giroux ranks fourth in scoring among ALL NHL players during the decade with 736 points, second in assists (506) and is tied for the lead in power-play points (288 with Ovechkin).
3. ABOUT THIS YEAR
The Flyers enter tonight's game earning wins in five of their last six games, and two of their last three road games... The Kings enter tonight having dropped four of their last five games and have had five of their last six games have been decided by one goal... The Kings are 9-7-4 in one-goal games and 22 of their 36 points have been earned in one-goal games, while the Flyers have had 17 of 40 games decided by one goal with an 11-1-5 mark... 12 of the 17 one-goal games by the Flyers have gone past regulation, while 9 of the 20 one-goal games have been decided past 60 minutes for the Kings.
4. THIS, THAT & THE OTHER
THIS: The Flyers are one of seven teams who have six players on their roster with 10 or more goals, while the Kings have three players with 10 or more goals this season... THAT: Drew Doughty ranks second among all NHL players in ice time, averaging nearly 26 minutes per-game (25:59), while Ivan Provorov ranks 10th, averaging nearly 25 minutes per-game (24:48)... THE OTHER: This is the first of two meetings with LA, who are one of four teams the Flyers have not faced yet this season (NSH, STL & TBL) - The Flyers have dropped six of their last eight meetings (2-3-3), including four of their last five (1-2-2) against the Kings, but have had success in LA, earning wins in seven of their last 10 trips to Staples Center (7-2-1).
5. PLAYERS TO WATCH
FLYERS (RW: #11 - Travis Konecny)
Konecny was just named to the NHL All-Star Game for the first time... Despite missing three games he's tied for the team lead in assists (7) and T-3rd in points (9) in December, and hasn't gone without a point in two straight games in over a month (Nov. 23-25)... Konecny made his NHL debut on Oct. 14, 2016 against the Kings, recording two assists.
KINGS (C: #77 - Jeff Carter)
Carter has eight points (4g-4a) in his last nine games, including two game-winning goals... He recently played in his 1,000th NHL game this season becoming the 13th player of the famous 2003 Draft Class to play in 1,000 NHL games - he ranks second among that class in goal-scoring (377)... Against his former team, Carter has five points (3g-2a) in nine games, but has four of those five points (2g-2a) in his last three meetings against the Flyers.
