Palat Hischier Celebration

Nico Hischier said it this morning, you don't win the game in the first ten minutes, stay patient. That certainly rang true tonight against the Anaheim Ducks.
The Devils were in an 0-2 hole heading into the second period but they stayed patient, while they found their stride, while Mackenzie Blackwood settled into the game and as a collective put the pieces together.
Ondrej Palat had the Devils opening goal, Nico Hischier tied the game at two in the second and Dougie Hamilton put them over the edge just 33 seconds into the third for the first victory of the season. Dawson Mercer completed the night with his first of the season, to secure the Devils 4-2 victory.

Lindy Ruff Post-Game Availability

Here are some observations from the game...
- Dawson Mercer has been firing on all cylinders since the beginning of the season with six shots in the first game, and five in the second. Tonight he finally broke through the goalie, scoring the Devils fourth goal of the night to put the team two goals ahead. - You'll see some limited ice-time from some of the Devils forwards and that's because Lindy Ruff shortened his bench to three lines, relying on his veterans to turn the game around. Given the scenario of the game, Ruff had to make the decisions to get his team back into the mix.

"I went down to three lines, I put it on our veterans. Really just felt that we'd go with three lines, maybe use McLeod and Bastian killing penalties and McLeod for a few face-offs. It was more of just getting down to three lines, and trying to breed a little bit of familiarity putting Bratt back up there."

- With the win head coach Lindy Ruff passes Al Arbour for fifth all-time in NHL wins with his 782nd victory as a head coach.
