Mercer Gets Birthday Surprise | BLOG

Wednesday marked the 20th birthday for Devils rookie Dawson Mercer. And it didn't go unnoticed amongst his teammates.
Following practice, the players made Mercer, who has two goals and four points this season, lead the post-practice stretch in center ice while they banged their sticks for him. But the best was yet to come.
Mercer received a "pie face" in which some type of cream - perhaps whipping or shaving - was smashed into his face. It left quite the look and quite the impression.
"I thought it was awesome. That's something that's been around a long time," head coach Lindy Ruff smiled. "I didn't realize it was his birthday until they called him into the circle for the stretch. We have a group that really enjoys each other."
