Jesper Boqvist is finding his game. Through 24 contests this year, he's contributed four goals and six assists; however, eight of the forward's ten points have happened since the Devils returned from winter break on Dec. 29. Also in that timespan, Boqvist has recorded two two-point games - first on the road against Toronto and then on the road against Montreal.
These numbers are already some of his best performances in the NHL. Boqvist's goals total matches his output in the two previous seasons, while his assists count is double what he had during the 2020-21 campaign. What is working this year that has allowed him to produce more than before?
"His shot," Devils head coach Lindy Ruff explained. "It seemed last year, he had some good opportunities and missed the net, but this year he's been finding his mark. If you can hit your mark a lot of times, the scoring is definitely going to go up."

New Jersey has used Boqvist as a third-line center and a winger throughout the season. When Boqvist is playing at center, he's helped balance out the team's lines.
"He's skated really well playing in the middle of the ice, it's really giving us a strong four-line look with good speed, and he's really been able to use his speed," Ruff said earlier this week. "When it comes to Boqvist's game I think when he's used his speed, he's able to take pucks wide on the other team and create some of his own opportunities."
Boqvist's teammates have noticed his growth and improvements in his game this season.
"He's a really skilled player, such a smooth skater, lots of skills up front and I think for him a big part is confidence," Devils Captain Nico Hischier said on Boqvist's improvements. "One or two go in the back of the net you build confidence and you can see it out there. He's making plays, he's skating with the puck, and that's his game. He's been playing really well for us."
Devils head coach Lindy Ruff has seen Boqvist step up as more injuries have impacted the forward group, which in turn gives the center more time to keep improving his game and showing the impact he can have.
