NHL Empowering Women

Women's Hockey Advancement Committee (WHAC)

The National Hockey League (NHL) and National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) continue their commitment to support girls and women in hockey with the relaunch of an enhanced Women's Hockey Advancement Committee, ongoing development opportunities for coaches, increased investments in girls hockey programs via the NHL/NHLPA Industry Growth Fund and NHL Foundation’s ‘Empowerment Grant for Girls Hockey,’ and special events in-arena across all 32 Clubs.

Girls Learn to Play (US) & First Shift (CA) Programs

The NHL/NHLPA Girls Learn to Play (US) and Girls First Shift (CA) are introductory programs to help girls build confidence while developing their skills alongside teammates, in a fun, supportive, and encouraging all-girls environment. Through the program, your child will learn the fundamentals of skating, stickhandling, passing, and shooting. In addition, players will learn the importance of hard work, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy competition in a positive all-girls setting.

Best of all, your child's registration also includes a FREE brand-new set of head-to-toe hockey equipment, custom fitted.

NHL Foundation Women’s Empowerment Grant

The NHL Foundation U.S. Empowerment Grant for Girls Hockey supports grassroots programs that expand access to hockey for girls, with a focus on skill development, leadership, and inclusion. Led by Ambassador Haley Skarupa, a U.S. Olympic gold medalist, this initiative helps break down barriers and build opportunities for young girls in the sport. The inaugural grant was awarded to the Columbus Ice Hockey Club, with future grants to follow across North America.
