I'm sure you've heard the saying "If it's meant to be, it'll be." Well, that was exactly what the Kelly family went in to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue thinking Saturday morning.

Enter Leopold.
For the last week Peter and Lauren Kelly had been looking for dogs online to surprise their three boys, aged six, ten, and 11. They came across Leopold and instantly fell (virtually) in love.
They tried to meet Leopold earlier this week, but with the amount of interest in him, the Kellys were unable to meet the dog prior to the Adoption Day.

"We had asked about Leopold a couple times this week and they kept saying, 'He's not available, he's not available,' so we really just came here to check it out," said Peter, who lives not far down the road in West Springfield.
Their heart still set on Leopold, imagine the range of emotions that swirled through the Kellys when they showed up at Homeward Trails Animal Rescue in Fairfax Station, Va., on Saturday only to be told that a couple was already there seeing him.
"We didn't think we would be going home with a dog today [Saturday], honestly," Peter said.
Luck however, was on their side. The couple initially looking at Leopold decided to pass on him.
Not only were the Kellys able to leave the adoption center with the dog they fell in love with online, but they also adopted Leopold on a day that the Washington Capitals' Caps Canines cared for by Olde Towne Pet Resort crew was present and giving memberships to all adopted dogs.

"We've always been Caps fans," said Peter. "It was one of those things that I think it was meant to be, so we are thrilled."
Peter and Lauren were obviously ecstatic, but the dog is mainly for their boys. The Kelly children have been asking for a furry friend for a long time and had no idea that sooner than they knew it, they'd be getting a new companion for life.
The cover story?
"They think we're on a Christmas coffee date, but actually, we are getting a dog for Christmas," said Lauren. "They are going to be so excited."
Leopold came all the way from Ecuador, where he was rescued. He had only been at the adoption center for roughly two weeks before being scooped up by the Kellys ready to give him a home.
Leopold Kelly will also be getting a nice treatment from
Olde Towne Pet Resorts
who offered all adopted dogs on Saturday a spa bath or two days of day camp.
