Players will be selected to represent the Capitals at the Chel Classic through competition in the Capitals Esports Faceoff - qualifying online tournaments slated for Jan. 12, 19, 26 and Feb. 2. The final eight participants will then challenge each other at an in-person, double-elimination tournament Feb. 22 in D.C. for a shot at one of the coveted final three roster spots and a chance to take home part of a $10,000 prize purse. The in-person tournament and the Chel Classic will be live streamed on Twitch.tv/Capitals. Revenue generated from Twitch streams through March 20 will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington.
Participants will compete in NHL 19 on PlayStation 4 with the online qualifying being a double elimination bracket moderated by Smash.gg. Tampa Bay's online tournament is scheduled for Feb. 2 and in-person tournament Feb. 16 at Amalie Arena.
