A History of the Caps Mentors' Trips

The Washington Capitals begin their ninth annual mentor's trip on Thursday against the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center. Players' mentors will also be in attendance on Saturday against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. Since 2008, the Capitals have posted a 10-5-0 record with their mentors in attendance.

Let's take a look back at some of the Caps Mentors' Trips from the past:
February 15-16, 2008: The Mentors' Trip brought the #CapsDads to Sunrise and Tampa, FL where they got to meet Bobby Orr.

February 14-15, 2009: The Mentors are back in Florida where we caught up with Nicklas Backstrom to talk about how his father influenced his career. We also spoke with the #CapsDads about getting "The Call" that their sons were going to play in their first NHL game.

February 2-4, 2010:The Mentors got to head up north with the Caps to New York City and a chance to tour the NHL Offices and meet Comissioner Gary Bettman. The #CapsDads also had a stop in Boston and talked about their favorite memories of their sons/brothers playing in the NHL.

March 6-7, 2011: The Mentors are back in Florida and Bobby Orr stops by again to say "Hello!" John Carlson took the time to go behind-the-scenes and offer a unique look at team dinner as well as a day out golfing with the #CapsDads.

February 12-13, 2012:The Mentors came with the Caps on the train up to New York City for a game against the New York Rangers and then back home for a game against the San Jose Sharks.

In 2012-13, the shortened lockout season led to there being no Caps Mentors' Trip.
January 24-25, 2014: The #CapsDads came with the team up to Montreal to witness a win north of the border plus a stop in New Jersey.

February 14-15, 2015: The Mentors met the team out in California for two days of sun in Los Angeles and Anaheim, CA.

December 10-12, 2015:An early-in-the-season trip for the #CapsDads brought them to back to Florida for a chance to explore the Florida Everglades and take a boat trip with their boys.
