"The Vancouver Canucks are proud to have many incredible women working in and leading our organization forward," said Michael Doyle, President, Canucks Sports and Entertainment, Business Operations. "It is important that we celebrate the accomplishments of talented women in the game of hockey and other areas of the sports and entertainment business, and reflect on what we can still do to promote equality in our communities."
The Canucks' Women's Empowerment Night is a part of the Hockey is for Everyone initiative, a joint program between the NHL and NHLPA to make hockey more inclusive and accessible. The month of March is dedicated to highlighting and amplifying the many accomplishments of women in hockey through every aspect of the game.
The Vancouver Canucks are excited to partner with Grindstone Award Foundation for the second year in a row. Since its inception in 2014, Grindstone Award Foundation has been able to provide over 140 monetary grants (totaling $72,000) to keep young girls in hockey, expanding from Kelowna to a national movement. Fans can learn more about this charity by visiting their booth on the concourse at Section 102, or by going online at

. The Canucks for Kids Fund is proud to donate $20,000 to Grindstone Award Foundation to help keep young girls in hockey.
The Canucks are honoured to support the efforts of Cammi Granato, Assistant General Manager, who is also helping to keep girls in youth hockey through her Girls Hockey Grant. "I want to ensure that monetary obstacles and barriers are not the reason that passionate, young girls have to stay out of hockey," said Granato. In two years, her grant program has been able to assist over 125 young girls and families across Canada and the US to continue pursing hockey.
Granato has also published a children's book titled I Can Play Too, based on her own story of playing hockey at a young age. "Representation is such an important aspect of encouraging young girls to follow their hockey passions," begins Granato. "I want young female players to envision that they can work at any level in the NHL and to strive for these positions."
