Fans Encouraged to Wear All Black for ‘Blackout’ Games on Friday, Nov. 28 and Sunday, Nov. 30

The Chicago Blackhawks today unveiled the return of one of hockey’s most renowned uniforms: the team’s legendary black jerseys. This alternate home sweater isn’t merely a throwback, but an upgrade that amplifies everything that makes the Blackhawks visually iconic as the franchise celebrates 100 years of hockey heritage during the ongoing Centennial celebration.

The team will debut the uniform on Black Friday (Friday, Nov. 28) vs. Nashville and Sunday, Nov. 30 vs. Anaheim. Fans are encouraged to wear all black apparel for both of these ‘Blackout’ games at the United Center.

“The long-awaited black alternate jersey returns this season as we celebrate 100 years of Blackhawks hockey, giving a nod to some of the greatest players to ever wear the sweater,” said Blackhawks Chairman and CEO Danny Wirtz. “Originally worn by Tony Amonte, Chris Chelios, Eric Daze and Denis Savard in the 1990s-2000s, these jerseys defined an era and became a symbol of the grit, strength, commitment and legacy that still holds true to today’s era of Blackhawks hockey.”

One of the most striking and beloved jersey in hockey

“We’re not just revisiting our past. We’re reactivating one of hockey’s most striking visual statements. Our fans were part of making it an icon under the United Center lights. They’ve been asking for this moment, and we couldn’t wait to give this back to them as the next generation takes the ice,” added Jaime Faulkner, President of Business Operations.

This jersey, originally worn from the 1996-97 to 2008-09 seasons, quickly became a symbol of the franchise’s modern identity, bridging the gap between the storied Original Six heritage and another bold new era of Blackhawks hockey. This evolution offers both a nostalgic connection for those who remember their original run and an instant classic for the new age of Blackhawks fans.

The Blackhawks will don these alternate jerseys for seven total games during the 2025-26 campaign. Additional home games will include the team’s Friday Night Hockey series, presented by Modelo, on the following days:

  • Jan. 9 vs. Washington
  • Jan. 23 vs. Tampa Bay
  • Jan. 30 vs. Columbus
  • March 14 against Vegas
  • March 20 vs. Colorado
