Most of the team was on the first bus to Air Canada Centre at 4 p.m., while the second bus left 30 minutes later. It took a little longer to get to the rink with traffic and snow falling, but the bus drivers did a marvelous getting the team to arena in a timely fashion.
At puck drop, the Avalanche survived an early push by the Maple Leafs and netted power-play goals on its first two chances to take a 2-0 lead early in the third period. Toronto scored to make it a one-goal contest, but Blake Comeau recorded an empty-netter to seal the win and a 2-2-0 road trip for Colorado. Avs goalie Semyon Varlamov was outstanding in the crease, making a season-high 51 saves.
While the Avs' two buses left Air Canada Centre at 10:33 p.m., the team's flight didn't depart until around 1 a.m. The club had to go through U.S. customs and had delays to deal with at the airport with it still snowing in Toronto. After being deiced, the Avs' flight was up in the air for the nearly three-and-a-half-hour trip back to Colorado. This plane ride was more lively than the one from Montreal the previous day, with many of the players taking part in an enticing card game, while others decided to sleep before getting home.
The club's charter landed in Denver at 2:20 a.m. MT, and the players headed to their cars and home after a week on the road.
