The Avalanche's Blind Hockey Clinic is one of the organization's marquee events for the NHL's league-wide Hockey is for Everyone initiative. The goal of the clinic was to bring the sport of hockey to a non-traditional audience as they skated with 30 visually impaired, aspiring hockey players in the Avalanche's fifth annual Blind Hockey clinic, presented by Delta Dental. The session featured members of both the U.S. Blind Hockey and Colorado Visionaries Blind Hockey teams.
The Avalanche's Blind Hockey Clinic provided a unique opportunity for visually impaired athletes to try hockey, giving them a chance to learn from Avalanche alumni with special volunteer assistance by Total Hockey. Each participant received a jersey, the use of skates, helmets, gloves and elbow pads for the day and had the opportunity to get alumni autographs from Avalanche Alumni Rick Berry, Eric Lacroix, John Mitchell and Kyle Quincey, along with Avalanche Ice Patrol and mascot Bernie.
The Visionaries Blind Hockey program was founded in 2018 after the Avalanche's first-ever Try Blind Hockey Event. For more information, contact Colorado Visionaries President, Geoff Martin, at [email protected].
