The Colorado Avalanche punched its ticket to the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs with 5-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.
Samuel Girard, Tyson Barrie, Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Nieto scored, and goaltender Jonathan Bernier made 32 saves against the Blues in a game where the winner would advance to the postseason. The Avalanche needed to win in regulation to advance. Colorado finishes the season with an 43-30-9 overall record and 95 points. It will be the eighth seed in the Western Conference, owning the second wild-card spot. The Avalanche will face the Nashville Predators in the first round beginning next week. The full Stanley Cup Playoff schedule will be announced by the NHL on Sunday.
