Hockey is for Me

The Minnesota Wild and the Minnesota Wild Foundation are proud to partner on the Hockey Is For Me program — a learn-to-skate and learn-to-play initiative designed to introduce more kids of color, ages 5 to 8, to the game of hockey. Below is an overview of the program’s three phases.

PHASE 1: Learn to Skate (July):

  • HIFM participants will receive the following for $29 (If you attend three of the four sessions you will be refunded and automatically entered to win a Minnesota Wild swag bag):
    • Four Learn to Skate sessions at TRIA Rink at 400 Wabasha Street North, St. Paul, MN.
    • Skates and helmets provided during each session.

PHASE 2: Little Wild Learn to Play (September-October)

  • Upon completion of Learn to Skate, all participants will advance to the Little Wild Learn to Play program. Little Wild participants receive:
    • Four 1-hour on-ice Learn-to-Play sessions
    • Complete set of hockey gear, including skates, helmet, gloves, stick, socks, pads, and hockey bag
    • When possible, participants will be placed in a Little Wild program nearest their home.
    • We will send you a link to register for the program along with a free discount code.

PHASE 3: Association Hockey (October-February)

  • At the conclusion of Little Wild, the Minnesota Wild will provide grants up to $250 to be applied toward the participant’s first-year registration fees.
  • The Minnesota Wild will partner with Minnesota Hockey to place kids with their local Youth Hockey Association.
  • Grants will be paid directly to the Youth Hockey Association on the child’s behalf.

"At zero cost, it's a no brainer. The Hockey is for Me program is almost like a 'try it before you buy it' type of thing."
