Asked and answered: Fast start propels Stars to first home win over Sens

Pavelski and Faksa score for Dallas, which earns its second straight victory to open the homestand

by Jeff Odom @jeffodom /

DALLAS -- As the Stars prepared to kick off a four-game homestand Monday, Jim Montgomery knew just how important a quick start would be against the Senators.

Coming off the road and playing in its 11th game in 19 days with plenty of travel in between, sluggishness out of the gate from Dallas was the coach's biggest concern.

"After a long road trip, usually that first game at home, you get back and it's a little bit of a sluggish start," Montgomery said before the game. "But we can't have anymore sluggish starts. We're behind the eight-ball."

By the time puck drop rolled around, the Stars made sure that wouldn't be an issue.

by Jeff Odom @jeffodom /

DALLAS -- The Stars' power play seems to be missing one of its most important ingredients these days:

Stars' best effort not enough in shootout loss to Flames

Dallas earned a point, but saw its two-goal advantage evaporate in the third period as Calgary rallied late to win

by Jeff Odom @jeffodom /

DALLAS -- The Stars put forth their best effort of the young season on Thursday against the Flames. It just wasn't enough to push them into the win column for the second consecutive game.

Despite goals from captain Jamie Benn and Joel L'Esperance, the Stars couldn't hold onto a two-goal lead in the third period as the Flames stormed back to force overtime and take an eventual 3-2 shootout win at American Airlines Center.

"I think we played good today," said Stars defenseman John Klingberg, who picked up his first point with an assist. "Obviously I think we had some really good looks. ... I think if we keep playing like this, we're gonna get results as well."

by Jeff Odom @jeffodom /

DALLAS -- For a fleeting moment, the compelling story that has been Thomas Harley's September with the Stars seemed as if it was about to get another chapter Thursday against the Wild.

Taking a feed at the top of the right circle from Andrew Cogliano in the second period, the rookie defenseman quickly fired home a sizzling wrister that looked like it had found a way through traffic and past Minnesota's Devan Dubnyk for his first preseason goal.

Harley, however, knew better.
