What was the first career you dreamed of having as a kid?
NHL player
What motivates you to keep pushing and be successful?
My passion for the game of hockey and a relentless desire to be the best I can be every single day in everything that I do. I have a long-embedded desire to give my best effort and work hard. Unrelenting work ethic can and does break barriers that create opportunities as a woman in leadership. Leading by example, I hope to continue to pave the way and create opportunities for other women who aspire to attain leadership positions.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement to date?
Unknowingly or unintentionally my choices have resulted in me being seen as a pioneer or trail blazer in my home community and beyond, which has encouraged little girls to play the game of hockey and excel in school. I never thought of myself as a role model or trail blazer but it's something I do not take lightly. If I have motivated any little girls to ask if 'she could play' too or any professional females to explore working in a male dominated industry, that is something I'm very proud of.
What sports did you play, and enjoy most or least, growing up?
I played hockey, soccer, cross-country, track, volleyball, baseball, basketball … pretty much every sport available. Hockey was my No. 1 with baseball being my least favorite to play. Not quite enough action for me!
What are your hobbies and why do you enjoy it/them?
I love spending time with family and friends. Close relationships mean everything to me. Traveling. Fitness has been an integral part of my being as long as I can remember. I like running, lifting weights, and utilizing my Peloton equipment. Working out helps clear my mind and prepare me for the day when I have a very busy and hectic schedule. It is a stress reliever and grounds me.
Do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert, and how does it impact your work?
Definitely an extrovert. I love interacting with staff, players, fans, clients, etc.
What is your favorite book and why?
"A Heart Full of Cash"
This book is for everyone who has faced obstacles with an "I can" attitude. It's based on the true-life events of Cash McKinnon, a young boy with cerebral palsy, who takes on the challenges of competing in running cross country for his school. With hard work, determination and the support of his coach (Steve McGrail) Cash accomplishes his goal and brings inspiration to all who know him. This heartwarming story demonstrates what it is to have the heart of a champion.
I had the opportunity to meet Cash in person and write the excerpt for this book. He attends my childhood elementary school. His perseverance and determination are inspiring, and he embodies the true spirit of a champion. The book is available on Amazon and all proceeds are donated to charity.
