COLUMBUS -- Yegor Chinakhov's third goal of the preseason broke a tie in the third period, and the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Washington Capitals 2-1 at Nationwide Arena on Saturday.
Chinakhov put Columbus ahead at 6:46 with a wrist shot from the right face-off circle. Sean Kuraly had two assists, and Elvis Merzlikins made 34 saves for the Blue Jackets. Aliaksei Protas scored, and Charlie Lindgren made 18 saves for the Capitals. Protas gave Washington a 1-0 lead on a rebound at 7:01 of the first period. Carson Meyer tied it 1-1 from the low slot at 12:03.
