SJS@ANA: Kane scores unassisted goal to make it 1-0

ANAHEIM --Evander Kane scored for the third straight game, and the San Jose Sharks swept a back-to-back series against the Anaheim Ducks with a 3-1 win at Honda Center on Saturday.

Kevin Labanc and Dylan Gambrell scored, and Martin Jones made 26 saves for the Sharks (11-11-3), who extended their season-long win streak to three games.
"Guys understand you can't get too far out of the race, especially at this point in the season," Kane said. "To get back to .500, it's a good step for our group. We need to gain some more ground on teams that are ahead of us."

Max Jones scored, and Ryan Miller made 30 saves for the Ducks (8-15-6), who lost 6-0 to the Sharks on Friday and are 2-9-3 in their past 14 games without a win in regulation.
"We were better than last game, but still not good enough," Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. "We've got to, to a man, be harder to play against. We've got to treat that puck like it's our wallet. If somebody comes up to you on the street trying to take your wallet, I'm pretty sure they're going to be in for a rough time."
Eakins said the team held a meeting Saturday morning following the one-sided loss on Friday, which was the first time Anaheim was shut out this season.
"Our whole group should be frustrated," Eakins said. "If you're just walking in here every day like this is all rainbows and butterflies, that's not a very good attitude to have, so there has to be frustration. But you've got to channel that in the right direction, and not one that turns into the frustration of, 'Poor me,' or pointing a finger at somebody else. Your frustration has to drive you to be better and to be harder."
San Jose scored on its first shot of the game two seconds after an Anaheim power play ended for a 1-0 lead at 6:16 of the first period.
Ducks defenseman Ben Hutton overskated a pass coming through the slot. Kane retrieved the puck and headed the other way on an odd-man rush, scoring with a wrist shot from the left circle.
Kane has 13 points (seven goals, six assists) in the past 10 games.
The Sharks didn't take another shot on goal until 11:10 of the first period, but the only two shots on goal for the Ducks in the first 10:24 were clears from the other side of the red line on the penalty kill.

SJS@ANA: Gambrell wins battle in front of the net

Jones made his biggest save late in the first period when he stopped Danton Heinen's shot off a 2-on-1 at 13:00. Max Comtois hit the crossbar from the slot at 14:35, keeping the Ducks scoreless for a fourth straight period against the Sharks.
"I thought we did a good job clearing the net," Jones said. "I was able to see the puck well."
Max Jones tied it 1-1 when he brought the puck down the right side and scored from an angle at 5:38 of the second period.
San Jose regained the lead 55 seconds later when Labanc scored off a feed from Tomas Hertl to make it 2-1 at 6:33.
"We're just a little bit snakebitten right now," Max Jones said. "As long as we're getting those chances, that's a good thing. We're focusing on the positives, and we're trying to stay positive on the bench. Every little thing we're cheering for."
Gambrell made it 3-1 when he pushed the puck through Miller's pads at 2:07 of the third period for his first goal of the season.
"Today, my focus was to just play," Martin Jones said. "Trust in the habits ingrained in practice. Don't think, just play."
NOTES: Jones won his 163rd game with the Sharks, moving into a tie with Antti Niemi for second on their all-time list. (Evgeni Nabokov, 293). … San Jose forward Logan Couture, who leads the Sharks with 13 goals and is second to Kane with 22 points, missed part of the second period after taking a hit from Anaheim defenseman Jani Hakanpää, but coach Bob Boughner said he expects Couture to be available against the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday. ....
