Lots of kids have had Alex Ovechkin posters on their walls over the years, but not many of them grew up to be drafted into the same organization.
Hendrix Lapierre realized that dream Tuesday at the 2020 NHL Draft when the Washington Capitals selected him at No. 22. On Thurday, Lapierre got a shoutout from the Great 8 himself.
"Congrats Hendrix and all draft picks this year!!! Meet u soon :))))," Ovechkin said on Twitter. After he was drafted, Lapierre, a center from Gatineau, Quebec, who played for Chicoutimi of the QMJHL, posted several photos to his Instagram account that showed his younger self in an Ovechkin jersey and holding trophies in front of an Ovechkin wall graphic. "What a day... So pumped to have been selected by this organization! Thanks to everyone that made it possible. Lets go caps," the caption read. Instagram from @lapierreh: What a day...
