Mikko Rantanen Minnesota Wild 2018 March 2

The Colorado Avalanche announced on Wednesday that the team will open the 2018-19 season at home against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, Oct. 4.

This will mark the third time the Avs have played their home opener against the Wild. Colorado also began the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons against Minnesota. The Avalanche also began the 2012-13 campaign against the Wild, though that game was played in St. Paul.
Additionally, it is fourth time in the last five seasons that Colorado has faced a division opponent in its first home contest.
The NHL Network will reveal the full 82-game schedule for the upcoming campaign on Thursday at 3 p.m. MT.
