The Lightning fell behind at 2:54 of the first period in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday and never found their footing.
That Valeri Nichushkin goal was the first of seven by the Avalanche, as they handed Tampa Bay a convincing 7-0 shutout loss at Ball Arena.

Colorado dominated possession all night long, limiting Tampa Bay to only 17 shots on goal, all of which were turned aside by Darcy Kuemper.
Andrei Vasilevskiy played all 60 minutes in the loss, stopping 24 shots.
The Bolts will now head home for Game 3 on Monday at AMALIE Arena looking up at a 2-0 series deficit.
Scoring Summary
1st Period
COL 1, TBL 0
2:54 Valeri Nichushkin (7) - Andre Burakovsky, Alex Newhook - PPG
An early roughing penalty on Ryan McDonagh came back to bite Tampa Bay, as the Avalanche grabbed the lead with a power play goal at 2:54 of the first period. Valeri Nichushkin found an open pocket of ice in the slot and redirected home a feed from Andre Burakovsky that came from along the far wall.
COL 2, TBL 0
7:55 Josh Manson (3) - Andrew Cogliano, Alex Newhook
With three forwards already in deep, McDonagh tried to pinch in from the left point, but Andrew Cogliano was able to work the puck ahead to Josh Manson and create an odd man rush. Manson shot the puck himself on the 2-on-1 and beat Andrei Vasilevskiy to double Colorado's lead.
COL 3, TBL 0
13:52 Andre Burakovsky (3) - Mikko Rantanen, Devon Toews
Andre Burakovsky capped a dominating opening period for the Avalanche when he crashed the front of the net and buried a rebound. Vasilevskiy made the save on Mikko Rantanen's initial shot from the right wing, but the rebound fell right for Burakovsky to slot home.
2nd Period
COL 4, TBL 0
4:51 Valeri Nichushkin (8) - Mikko Rantanen
Rantanen intercepted a pass behind the Lightning net and quickly set up a wide-open Nichushkin in front for a goal to stretch Colorado's lead to four early in the second period.
COL 5, TBL 0
16:26 Darren Helm (2) - Logan O'Connor
A bouncing puck in the high slot couldn't be controlled by Jan Rutta and the Avalanche quickly turned it around for an odd man rush. Darren Helm jumped on the loose puck, racing down ice and snapping a shot high to the glove side on Vasilevskiy.
3rd Period
COL 6, TBL 0
2:04 Cale Makar (6) - Unassisted - SHG
The deficit ballooned to six when Cale Makar buried a shot on a shorthanded 2-on-1 rush early in the third period.
COL 7, TBL 0
9:49 Cale Makar (7) - Mikko Rantanen, Nathan MacKinnon - PPG
Beautiful puck movement on the power play resulted in the Avalanche's seventh goal of the night. Rantanen teed up Makar for a one-timed blast from the left circle that got past Vasilevskiy.
