Under new head coach Rod Brind'Amour, the Carolina Hurricanes have gotten off to an impressive start. Heading into Tuesday's contest at Amalie Arena, the Hurricanes had gone 4-1-1, had outshot their opponents in every game, had eclipsed 30 shots in all of those games and had reached 40 or more shots in four of the six. They play with pace and, as their high shot total would indicate, funnel a lot of pucks to the opposition net.

Those characteristics were on display against the Lightning. Once again, the Hurricanes posted 40 shots. There were segments in which Carolina dictated play and had a puck possession advantage. But nevertheless, the Lightning were able to prevail. How did they do it?
These were two hard-earned points against an excellent opponent. The Lightning are now 3-1-0 and wrap up their season-opening five-game homestand on Thursday against Detroit.
