Bishop started against Detroit and made four saves but went down awkwardly after stretching to make a stop at 12:14 of the first period and exited the ice, heading back to the locker room. Bishop didn't return and was replaced by Andrei Vasilevskiy, who made 22-of-23 saves in relief to earn the victory.
The three-to-four-week timeline puts Bishop back on the ice between January 11-18.
Bishop is 9-10-1 this season with a 2.82 goals-against average and .906 save percentage in 21 starts. He's 2-1-2 in his last five starts.
With Bishop out, the Lightning recalled Kristers Gudlevskis from their AHL affiliate in Syracuse. Gudlevskis is 5-4-2 with a 2.89 GAA in 14 appearances this season for the Crunch. He has NHL experience too having suited up in two regular season games and two playoff games for the Lightning. In his last appearance with the Bolts (Oct. 24, 2015), Gudlevskis made all 31 regulation-time saves against the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks before falling in overtime.
Add Bishop to the list of notable Lightning players beset by injuries currently with Steven Stamkos (lateral meniscus tear in right knee), Nikita Kucherov (lower-body injury), Ondrej Palat (undisclosed) and Ryan Callahan (lower-body injury) already on the shelf.
Bishop set Lightning franchise records for games played and all-time saves earlier this season and played in his 250th career NHL game on Dec. 8 vs. Vancouver.
