VEGAS (April 20, 2020) - The Vegas Golden Knights announced today, April 20, that the organization will be partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at City National Arena on the Star Nursery Rink on April 24 from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Because of social distancing guidelines and safety precautions, the event will be limited to essential working staff and participants only. The event will not be open to the general public or media.

Amid coronavirus concerns, the Vegas community has shown an outpouring of support by scheduling and filling all blood donation appointments. Nevertheless, the Red Cross and the Vegas Golden Knights are taking this opportunity to encourage healthy individuals to continue to schedule and keep donation appointments for other available blood drives across the state in the weeks ahead to ensure a stable supply throughout this pandemic.

"During these unprecedented times it's easy to feel helpless, but something as simple as taking a few minutes out of your day to donate blood can make a world of difference for your community," said Vegas Golden Knights President Kerry Bubolz. "We're proud to partner with the American Red Cross and use one of our empty ice rinks to provide our community with a safe space to make these life-saving donations."

"During these uncertain times, we are grateful to partners like the Vegas Golden Knights who have remained steadfast in playing a vital role in helping the Red Cross maintain a sufficient blood supply for the Vegas community, as well as to 2,500 hospitals across the county," said Alan Diskin, Red Cross executive director.

The Golden Knights and the American Red Cross are taking all necessary steps to provide a safe and comfortable environment for community members to donate blood. The Red Cross already follows thorough safety protocols to help prevent the spread of any type of infection each day and have implemented additional precautionary measures out of an abundance of caution. Every day patients rely on lifesaving blood transfusions including those who need surgery, victims of car accidents and other emergencies, or patients suffering from cancer.

Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with type O negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be transfused to anyone and is often used to treat trauma patients.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: All appointment slots have been filled. Only those who have registered in advance and have a confirmed appointment time will be able to donate. Unfortunately, walk-ins cannot be accommodated.
