The Sixteen: Golden Knights Dominate Oilers in Game 3

The Vegas Golden Knights found themselves in a 1-1 series tie with the Edmonton Oilers after dropping Game 2 of the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, 5-1. With the series shifting to Edmonton, the Golden Knights knew they were entering a tough building to play in.

The Oilers struck first once again, just as they had in every game so far. This time it was Warren Foegele who got things started less than three minutes into the opening period. Vegas, as always, responded and refused to go down without a fight. Two goals from Jonathan Marchessault in the first at 4:44 and 19:09 gave the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead heading into the middle frame. However, there was one hang-up that left Golden Knights fans nervous. Starting goaltender Laurent Brossoit, who carried Vegas to a Round 1 victory, was injured halfway through the first. Brossoit posted a .894 save percentage and a 3.18 GAA up until his injury. When Brossoit exited the game, it was time for Adin Hill to step in and try to close it out.

Once the puck dropped for the second period, Vegas put its foot on the gas and scored three unanswered goals from Zach Whitecloud, Jack Eichel and Chandler Stephenson. There were no goals in the third and Vegas skated away with a 5-1 win. In a rare occurrence, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were left off the scoresheet entirely. Hill stood tall with 24 saves as he turned aside all 24 shots he faced. Marchessault and Eichel led the way with a combined five points, with Marchessault's first goal being his first of the postseason.

"It sucks to see your teammate go down like that," Hill said regarding Brossoit. "You kind of have to flip the switch; we got a hockey game to play."

Though Hill came into the game cold in the second period, he immediately became a driving factor for Vegas in the series.

"He's a pro. We all see it every single day," Whitecloud said of Hill. "He's in there competing and getting himself ready if the opportunity comes like it did tonight."
