After dropping a pair of games at Texas this weekend, falling 4-1 on Friday and 5-4 on Saturday, Cleveland finds itself in a close race to make the AHL North Division playoffs with 14 games to go. The Monsters (28-20-5-5) are tied for tied for fourth with Syracuse with 66 points, and the two are two points ahead of sixth-place Belleville. The top five teams in the division make the playoffs, with the fourth seed facing the five seed in a three-game series.
Cleveland is just 2-6-1-1 in its last 10 games to come back to the pack, but they did find some offense in the second game at Texas with goals from Jordan Dumais, Joseph LaBate, Drew Bavaro and Max McCue.
The Monsters stay on the road with crucial road tests this weekend. They face North Division-leading Laval on Friday and Saturday before taking on Belleville on Sunday.
