ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals and Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation Raised $114,675 for four cancer-related charities through their Hockey Fights Cancer campaign in November.

The funds will be split between Flashes of Hope, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
The Washington Capitals teamed up with the National Hockey League and FORTUNE 500® science and technology company Leidos in November to educate the hockey community about cancer through Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month.
Hockey Fights Cancer is a league-wide initiative founded by the NHL and NHL Players' Association and is dedicated to raising awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research.

Hockey Fights Cancer Skate
The 2019-20 Capitals roster hosted a Hockey Fights Cancer skate with Flashes of Hope, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Nov. 22.

Hockey Fights Cancer Starting Lineup
Six Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic children were surprised by head coach Todd Reirden with the news they'd be named as members of the team's starting lineup during the Nov. 23 Hockey Fights Cancer game.
Each participant was matched with a starting six Capitals player and was introduced individually with their headshot on the jumbotron in honor of their fight against cancer.

T.J. Oshie Wish
T.J. Oshie granted the wish of 18-year-old Reading, Penn., native Brock. Brock skated with Capitals players at the end of practice on Nov. 22 prior to participating in the Hockey Fights Cancer Skate. In addition, Brock rode to the Capitals game in a limo with T.J. Oshie on Nov. 23. He watched warmups from the Capitals bench prior to taking part in the Capitals starting lineup. Postgame, Brock was given a tour of the Capitals locker room by Oshie.

Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night
The Capitals hosted Hockey Fights Cancer Night on Nov. 23, featuring a special Hockey Fights Cancer starting lineup and other Hockey Fights Cancer related themes throughout the evening. Proceeds from MSE Foundation's 50/50 raffle were also donated to the Hockey Fights Cancer beneficiaries.
Fans were asked to show their support for those fighting cancer by holding up "I Fight For" signs during a designated timeout, as well as by sharing their stories on social media platforms by using the #CapsFightCancer hashtag.
Players wore Hockey Fights Cancer warmup jerseys, and select players used sticks wrapped in lavender tape during warmups. In addition, the pregame on-ice projection featured lavender in honor of Hockey Fights Cancer.

MSE Foundation Auction
Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) Foundation hosted an auction featuring signed lavender jerseys worn during warmups on Nov. 23; autographed, used hockey sticks with lavender tape; signed, limited-edition Hockey Fights Cancer pucks; a Hockey Fights Cancer tie worn by Radko Gudas and lavender skate blades autographed by Nicklas Backstrom.
The auction raised $69,150. Leidos donated an additional $40,000.
Proceeds from the auction benefited Flashes of Hope, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Hockey Fights Cancer Ticket Donation
A $5 donation per ticket purchased for the Nov. 23 Capitals game using a HFC promo code was made to the Capitals' Hockey Fights Cancer beneficiaries.
