Joonas Korpisalo named NHL's Third Star for the week ending December 22

Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Joonas Korpisalo has been named the National Hockey League's Third Star for the week ending December 22, the league and club announced today. Florida Panthers center Noel Acciari was named the First Star, while Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi was selected as the Second Star.
Korpisalo, 25, went 4-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average, .939 save percentage and one shutout in four games last week as the Blue Jackets extended their regulation unbeaten streak to seven games (5-0-2). He began the week by earning his second shutout of the season with 30 saves in a 3-0 win over Washington on December 16. One night later, he turned aside 18 shots in a 5-3 win at Detroit. On December 19, he earned a 3-2 overtime win over Los Angeles by stopping 23-of-25 shots. He concluded the week with 21 saves in a 5-1 win over New Jersey on December 21.
The Pori, Finland native has been one of the NHL's top netminders over the past two months. Since November 1, he has gone 11-6-2 with a 2.15 goals-against average, .923 save percentage and two shutouts in 19 appearances. He ranks second-T in the NHL in shutouts and fourth in wins (three tied with 12) during that span, and among goaltenders with at least 15 games played, he is second in goals-against average and seventh in save percentage. In his first season as the club's number one goaltender, Korpisalo is 16-10-3 with a 2.56 goals-against average, .910 save percentage and two shutouts in 29 games.
