Hockey New Year

The Blackhawks will kick off their 2018-19 regular-season home opener on Sunday, Oct. 7, with a special red carpet event featuring the team's arrival before they host the Toronto Maple Leafs that evening.

For the first time ever, this annual event will be held inside the United Center Atrium. It is free to attend, and fans are encouraged to arrive early to secure their viewing space along the red carpet as this event is expected to hit capacity.

The "Hockey New Year!"-themed celebration will feature:

  • Appearances by the 2018-19 Blackhawks players as they walk the red carpet inside the Atrium, beginning at approximately 3:30 p.m.
  • Commemorative rally towels for the first 1,000 fans to enter the Atrium for the red carpet event.
  • A countdown and balloon drop, marking the official start to the 2018-19 season.
  • Additional entertainment including music and appearances by Blackhawks alumni, Tommy Hawk and the Ice Crew. While on-site, fans can also visit all of the Atrium's new food and beverage offerings including Queenie's, Mad West and the atrium bar as well as the Madhouse Team Store.

Tips for fans:

  • The North and East doors to the Atrium will open at 2 p.m. for the red carpet event. Please note that the South doors will be closed to accommodate this special event.
  • Parking lots D, E and K will open at 12 p.m. All other parking lots around the United Center will open at 2 p.m. Click here for more parking information.
  • Gates will open for the home opener immediately following the conclusion of the red carpet event at approximately 4 p.m.

Be sure to arrive early to avoid crowds and for shorter lines into the arena. You won't want to miss the National Anthem and pregame projection show!
