CANADA (5) vs. SWEDEN (2)
Team Canada will compete for gold after defeating Sweden 5-2 in the Semifinals on Wednesday night at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
The first 20 minutes of regulation was a back and forth battle as both teams found the back of the net twice. Captain Joel Eriksson EK was the first skater to get on the board for Sweden at the 6:05 mark. Nearly a minute later Canada responded with a goal from Mitchell Stephens to tie the game 1-1. Sweden's Carl Grundstrom lit the lamp to give his country a 2-1 lead with 12:55. The Canadiens fought back with a goal netted goal by Antony Cirelli to end the first frame with a 2-2 tie.
Canada gained its first lead of the contest during the second period when Julien Gauthier gave the team a 3-2 advantage.
Dylan Strome and Gauthier both scored in the final frame to give Canada the victory.
Colorado Avalanche prospect Tyson Jost had an assist on the final goal of the night. Goaltender Adam Werner did not dress in the match.
Canada plays rival Team USA on Thursday at 6 p.m. MT for the gold. Sweden plays Russia at 1:30 p.m. MT for the bronze medal. Both games will be at Bell Centre in Montreal.
