Tyson Jost St. Louis Blues 2018 February 8

The Colorado Avalanche can earn a berth into the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a regulation win on Saturday night at Pepsi Center against the St. Louis Blues.
St. Louis defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 on Friday at United Center and has a one-point lead over Colorado for the second and final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. The Blues have 94 points (41 regulation and overtime wins) while the Avalanche has 93 points (40 regulation and overtime wins).

The Avs can only advance with a regulation victory. If Colorado defeats St. Louis in overtime or a shootout, the Avalanche would not advance based on tiebreakers. The Blues would have either more regulation or overtime victories (first tiebreaker) or have more points earned in the season series.
The NHL's second tiebreaking scenario reads as follows:
The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included.
Saturday's matchup will be the fifth meeting of the season between the Central Division clubs and the second in Colorado. With the Blues hosting the extra game, the first contest at Scottrade Center on Jan. 25 (a St. Louis win) is discarded from the tiebreaking scenario. St. Louis currently holds a 4-2 advantage in points earned in this scenario.
A victory in any fashion (regulation, overtime or shootout) on Saturday advances the Blues to the postseason.
