The Colorado Avalanche will select 16th overall in the first round of the 2018 NHL Draft on June 22-23, at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
The Avalanche has made 40 first-round picks in franchise history, including 22 since moving to Denver in 1995, but this year marks the first time in franchise history that the club has selected 16th overall.

Colorado presently has a total of eight selections at this year's draft. The club has one pick in the first round (16th overall), two choices in the second round and picks in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh rounds. The Avs gained the Nashville Predators' second-round draft choice in a three-team trade on Nov. 5 that also involved the Ottawa Senators.
The first 15 spots were decided by the NHL Draft Lottery on April 28, while the remaining picks of the first round are in inverse order of the playoff-bound teams' regular season records. The opening round will end with the Stanley Cup champion picking 31st while the runner-up will choose at No. 30. The Detroit Red Wings currently own the Vegas Golden Knights' pick from a Feb. 26 trade.
A complete draft order will be released by the league at the conclusion of the postseason.
This year's draft marks the first time it has been held in the state of Texas. The first round of the summer selection will take place on Friday, June 22, and rounds 2-7 will be held on Saturday, June 23.
