Avalanche Farm Report: March 21

San Antonio Rampage

On Friday, San Antonio fell short as San Diego took a 2-1 win after scoring the game-winner 16 seconds into overtime. The Silver and Black tied the game with 6:14 left in the third period to force overtime. Rocco Grimaldi and Troy Bourke assisted on Alex Belzile's lone goal for the team.
The club had more extra time heartbreak the next night, as the Rampage lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Gulls. Bourke and Petryk had two-point nights, with Petryk getting two goals and Bourke picking up two assists. San Antonio also had helpers from Eric Gelinas, Mat Clark and Girard, while Shawn St-Amant also scored. The Rampage went 0-for-4 in the shootout.
San Antonio announced on Saturday morning that it had signed Avalanche prospect Ben Storm and Brady Shaw to amateur tryout contracts. Storm (St. Cloud State) and Shaw (Vermont) inked the deals following the conclusion of their college seasons.

Colorado Eagles (ECHL)

The Colorado Eagles took on the Utah Grizzlies three times at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah, and clinched their 14th straight playoff berth after a 3-0 week. The Eagles won 5-2 on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday before picking up one more victory over Utah on Monday, a 5-3 win. The Eagles are now 44-15-5 and continue to lead the Mountain Division with 93 points. Colorado will play its next three games at home, facing the Rapid City Rush on Wednesday and then the Utah Grizzlies on Friday and Saturday.

OHL

Travis Barron (Ottawa 67's): The Ottawa 67's finished the regular season with a 26-34-8 record and earned an OHL playoff berth. Ottawa went 1-2 last week, with the club having a rough start in a 2-0 loss to the Peterborough Petes on Wednesday. On Saturday, Ottawa defeated the Oshawa Generals 5-2 for its only win of the week. The 67's struggled to get another win on Sunday, as they lost 3-1 to the Hamilton Bulldogs. Ottawa will play either Oshawa or Mississauga on Friday in a best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal series, depending on the outcome of the league's last regular season game on Tuesday. Avalanche prospect Travis Barron finished the campaign with 13 goals and 21 assists in 59 games.

QMJHL

J.C. Beaudin (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies): The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies played three games this last week and struggled to find success as they went 0-3. Rouyn-Noranda began the week with an 3-2 loss over Shawinigan on Wednesday. Avs prospect J.C. Beaudin assisted on a goal in the defeat. On Friday, Beaudin found the back of net, but the Huskies lost 3-2 to Blainville-Boisbriand. The team skated against Victoriaville the next day and fell 5-3. Rouyn-Noranda finished the regular season 43-18-7 (93 points), winning its division and earning the No. 2 seed for the QMJHL Playoffs. The Huskies will play the Halifax Mooseheads on Friday in the start of a best-of-seven first round series. Beaudin finished the regular season with 80 points, picking up 30 goals and 50 assists in 65 games.
Nicolas Meloche (Charlottetown Islanders): The Charlottetown Islanders finished up their final three games of the regular season last week, going 1-2. On Wednesday, the team lost 6-5 to the Halifax Mooseheads but won 6-3 on Friday versus the Saint John Seadogs. On Saturday, the team lost 5-2 to Acadie-Bathurst. Colorado prospect Nicolas Meloche added a goal in the victory on Friday, increasing his season total to 47 points (16 goals and 31 assists) in 61 regular season games. The Islanders finished with a 46-18-4 record and 96 points. They are fourth in the QMJHL standings after finishing second in the Maritimes Division. The Islanders will face Baie-Comeau, one of Meloche's former clubs, in the best-of-seven Round 1 series that begins on Friday.

WHL

Josh Anderson (Prince George Cougars): The Prince George Cougars finished first in the B.C. Division with 96 points and a 45-21-6 record. The Cougars went 1-1 last week after starting play with a 3-1 win over the Kamloops Blazers on Friday. Josh Anderson had two assists, tying a season and career high. Prince George then lost 2-1 on Saturday. Prince George will play the Portland Winterhawks in the first round of the best-of-seven playoffs, which begins Friday. Anderson finished the regular season with three tallies and eight helpers in 69 games.

NCAA

Will Butcher (University of Denver): Senior Will Butcher was named the NCHC Player of the Year on Thursday, while the University of Denver enters the NCAA National Championship tournament this weekend as the No. 1 overall seed. In the Frozen Faceoff at Target Center in Minneapolis on Friday, the Pioneers lost 1-0 to the University of North Dakota in the conference semifinal game. The loss ended Denver's 13-game winning streak. On Saturday, DU faced Western Michigan in the third-place game and took a 3-1 victory. The Pios are now 29-7-4 and will play Michigan Tech on Saturday in the first round of NCAA Midwest Regional in Cincinnati. Butcher has six goals and 29 assists this season.
Tyson Jost (University of North Dakota): The then No. 10-ranked North Dakota upset No.1 University of Denver 1-0 on Friday in the Frozen Faceoff in Minneapolis. Avalanche prospect Tyson Jost assisted on the Fighting Hawks' goal in the NCHC Tournament semifinals. UND then took on Minnesota Duluth in the championship game on Saturday and lost 4-3. Jost had one goal and two assists in the title contest. The Fighting Hawks (21-15-3) earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will play No. 2-seeded Boston University on Friday in the West Regional in Fargo. Jost is second on the Hawks in scoring this season with 35 points (16 goals and 18 assists) in 32 games.
Cam Morrison (University of Notre Dame): The University of Notre Dame competed in one game in the Hockey East Tournament last week, losing 5-1 to UMass-Lowell on Friday. The Fighting Irish will be a No. 4 seed when it faces the No. 1-seeded University of Minnesota on Saturday in the NCAA Northeast Regional in Manchester, New Hampshire. Cam Morrison has nine goals and 11 assists during his freshman campaign
Ben Storm (St. Cloud State University): St. Cloud State University's season ended two weeks ago, as the team lost in the NCHC Quarterfinals. Ben Storm had one playoff assist and finished the season with a total of four helpers in 29 games. On Saturday morning, he signed an amateur tryout with the San Antonio Rampage.

Sweden

Gustav Olhaver (Rogle BK J20, Super Elit): Gustav Olhaver and Rogle BK faced off against HV71 in a best-of-three playoff series last week. They started off the week with a 3-2 win on Wednesday in Game 1 but then fell 6-3 on Friday and 6-5 on Saturday to end their season. Gustav Olhaver scored a goal in the team's loss on Saturday. Olhaver had 15 goals and 23 assists during the 2016-17 regular season.
Adam Werner (Bjorkloven, Allsvenskan): Bjorkloven and Adam Werner did not make the playoffs after finishing the regular season in 11th place with a 20-26-6 record. Werner posted a 12-13 record and registered a 2.98 goals-against average, .892 save-percentage and two shutouts in 25 games this year.
Wilhelm Westlund (Timra IK, Allsvenskan): Timra IK and Wilhelm Westlund played one game last week and lost 4-2 on Tuesday to IK Pantern. Westlund picked up a goal in the outing. However, the loss eliminated Timra from contention in the Meca Hockey Race, as it went 2-3 during the round-robin playoffs. The defenseman finished with one tally and eight helpers during the regular season and had three points (one goal and two assists) in five postseason outings.

Slovakia

Maximilian Pajpach (HK Poprad, Slovak Extraliga): Maximilian Pajpach has split time this season between HK Poprad of Slovak Extraliga and MHC Martin B in Slovakia's second-tier pro league. Pajpach has a 4.22 goals-against average and a .872 save percentage in nine games for Poprad. He's recorded a 7.05 goals-against average and a .828 save percentage in five contests with MHC Martin B. Pajpach has also played in four games with Poprad's under-20 team, where he's registered a 3.41 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.

KHL

Denis Parshin (Salavat Yulaev Ufa): Denis Parshin's season is over after Salavat Yulaev Ufa lost in five games in the East Conference Quarterfinals. Parshin had two assists in five postseason contests after recording 20 points (eight goals and 12 assists) in 53 regular-season games.
Andrei Mironov (Dynamo Moscow): Andrei Mironov's season has come to an end after Dynamo Moscow dropped games 4 and 5 last week to SKA Saint Petersburg in the West Conference Semifinals. Dynamo lost 4-1 on Tuesday in Game 4 before being eliminated from the KHL playoffs with a 2-0 loss on Thursday. Mironov had three assists in nine playoff games and one goal and three helpers in 18-regular season contests.

High School

Nate Clurman (Culver Academy): Nate Clurman and Culver Academy competed in four games this past week at the Mid-Am Under-18 districts. Culver went 3-1 in its contests and earned a bid to the national tournament. On Friday, the team faced Cleveland and won 5-1 before beating Gilmour 3-0 later in the day. Clurman had a power-play goal in the second game on Friday. On Saturday, the team faced off against Esmark and took a 5-3 win, earning a spot in the championship game. In Sunday's title contest, Culver fell 3-2 to Columbus.

Central Interior Hockey League

Luke Walker (Terrace River Kings): Luke Walker helped the Terrace River Kings win the Coy Cup in the Central Interior Hockey League in British Columbia. Walker led all players in postseason scoring with seven points (three goals and four assists) in five games after he recorded 24 points (12 goals and 12 assists) in 14 regular-season contests. In the best-of-three championship series against the Williams Lake Stampeders, Walker scored a goal in Game 1 but Terrace lost 4-2 on March 4. The River Kings rallied in the next two road contests, as Walker had a four-point night (goal and three assists) in a 5-4 overtime win on March 11 before the club took the series with a 2-1 victory the next night.
