Organizers mark 100 days to 12th annual Hockey Day Minnesota

ST. CLOUD -- The official 12th Annual Wells Fargo Hockey Day Minnesota flag was raised during a special ceremony at St. Cloud's Lake George Municipal Park today to mark 100 days to the statewide hockey celebration, which will take place on Saturday, Jan. 20. Headquartered from an outdoor rink that will be constructed at Lake George, the backdrop will feature downtown St. Cloud. Proceeds of the event will benefit St. Cloud area youth hockey programs.

St. Cloud set to host 12th annual hockey celebration Jan. 20, 2018

SAINT PAUL -- FOX Sports North, in conjunction with the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Hockey and the St. Cloud Organizing Committee, announced the date and schedule for the 12th Annual Hockey Day Minnesota (HDM) presented by Wells Fargo this evening in front of a crowd of about 10,000 at "Summertime by George" in St. Cloud. The telecast event will take place on Saturday, January 20, and includes a full day of hockey programming beginning at 9 a.m.

That's how Joe Campbell remembers his brother, Jeff. They grew up together in the 1970s in the sleepy, quiet town of Willernie, Minnesota, an enclave inside Mahtomedi. When they were kids, they'd build things with their older brother, Jack Jr., cars made of wood scraps and whatever else they could find around the house.

In the winter, they'd make the two-block walk to the ice rink near their house, skates on their backs and snow in their eyes.

Wild Hosts Ducks to Cap Hockey Day Minnesota

Wild scored one-goal victory over Anaheim in Southern California earlier this month

ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Wild will continue its four-game homestand when it caps Hockey Day Minnesota 2017 on Saturday with a game against the Anaheim Ducks at Xcel Energy Center.

Hockey Day will emanate from Stillwater, with two boys high school games and one prep girls game being played at Lowell Park on the banks of the St. Croix River. A men's college hockey battle between Minnesota and Wisconsin at the Kohl Center in Madison and a women's college game between Minnesota State and St. Cloud State at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud follows before the Wild and Ducks renew acquaintances in St. Paul.

Some may leave their country and play in junior leagues or in college. Others stay close to home to hone their skills. Most, at some point, are without their parents, friends and the comforts of home until they meet with and cultivate relationships with others who have made the same sacrifice.
