Utah Hockey Club announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Olli Määttä from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a third-round draft choice in the 2025 NHL Draft which was previously acquired from the New York Rangers.

The 30-year-old defenseman has played in seven games with the Red Wings in 2024-25, averaging 15:52 time on ice per game. Last season, Määttä recorded 4-14-18 and 14 penalty minutes (PIM) in 72 games. He also led the team with a plus-14 rating and ranked sixth on the Red Wings with 96 blocked shots.

In his 12th NHL season, Määttä has registered 40-137-177 and 162 PIM in 691 career NHL games with the Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins.

A native of Jyväskylä, Finland, Määttä has tallied 5-22-27 and 24 PIM in 85 career playoff games. He also won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins when he was teammates with current Utah defenseman Ian Cole in 2016 and 2017.

Määttä was originally drafted by the Penguins in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
