Story of the Day

The Capitals visit the Vancouver Canucks tonight at Rogers Arena for the second and final regular-season meeting between the teams this season. In the first matchup on Oct. 19 at Capital One Arena, the Capitals nearly rallied from a four-goal deficit before ultimately falling to Vancouver, 4-3. Tonight’s contest marks the second game of Washington’s season-long six-game road trip. The Capitals, who are 6-4-0 against Canadian teams this season, have won seven of their last nine games (7-2-0) at Rogers Arena.

Logan Thompson, who will represent Canada at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, ranks fourth in the NHL in goals-against average (2.38) and tied for fourth in save percentage (.914) among goaltenders with 20 or more games played this season. In addition, Thompson ranks second in the NHL in goals saved above expected (33.2), per Sportlogiq.

The Capitals have scored 2.99 goals per game with Thompson in net this season. Thompson’s 17 wins are tied for the third most among goaltenders who receive less than three goals of support on average (Juuse Saros: 19 wins, 2.60 GF/GP; Sergei Bobrovsky: 19 wins, 2.91 GF/GP; Igor Shesterkin: 17 wins, 2.69 GF/GP).
