OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators general manager and president of hockey operations Steve Staios announced today the club has signed forward Drake Batherson to a eight-year contract extension. The deal carries a $10.75 million AAV through the 2034-2035 season.
“Drake exemplifies what it is to be an Ottawa Senator,” said Staios. “He was drafted and developed by our organization and has shown a commitment to wanting to be in Ottawa long term. We view him as a key part of our core group.”
Batherson, 28, tied a unique NHL record last season, when he became only the second player in league history to increase his individual point total in seven consecutive seasons. During the most productive season of his career, Batherson scored 33 goals and recorded 38 assists for a total of 71 points in 79 games in 2025-26. This marked the first time he had reached the 30-goal and 70-point milestones. He was also the team's leading scorer during the playoffs, racking up four points — three goals and one assist — in four games.
The right winger, who lives in Nova Scotia during the offseason, is now the second-longest tenured player on the team. He could become the 14th player to play 500 regular-season games in an Ottawa uniform. His 364 points so far place him 10th among the franchise's all-time leading scorers.
