Game Day Preview Wide 11

After a late, emotional night at home, the Ottawa Senators will head back out onto the ice at Canadian Tire Centre to search for their second win in a row.

The Senators improved to 7-3-0 with Wednesday’s win over the Florida Panthers and will wrap up their third back-to-back in as many weeks Thursday against San Jose.

“I think that’s the challenge of this league, is always responding, and, you know, looking towards the next game,” said Jake Sanderson after the win.

“We’ve got to get a good rest tonight, we’re playing a really good team [Thursday], some pretty special players, so we’ve got to be ready for sure.”

Linus Ullmark left Wednesday’s game with a lower-body injury. On Thursday, the netminder was placed on injury reserve, meaning he’ll miss a week or more of game action. In a corresponding move, the Sens recalled Jonas Johansson from AHL Belleville.

Senators head coach Travis Green will speak to the media on Thursday afternoon and provide lineup updates. Follow Senators team reporters Andrew Wilimek and Jackson Starr on X for up-to-date information ahead of the game.

Loose Pucks

With a 5-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday, the Senators reached seven wins in their 10th regular-season game. This marks the fourth time they have achieved this feat– and the first time since 2016-17.

On Wednesday, the Senators faced their former captain, Brady Tkachuk, for the first time since the trade was completed on June 21. The Sens have a record of three wins, one loss, and two ties in their reunion games against their last six captains.

The Faceoff

The Senators have swept two straight season series against San Jose, winning each of their last four meetings with the Sharks. A win on Thursday evening would match Ottawa’s longest-ever win streak versus San Jose – a five-game winning streak from Feb. 28, 2015 — Dec. 7, 2016.

The Senators have also won four straight home games against San Jose, outscoring the Sharks 22-13 in the process. The Sharks’ last win in Ottawa was more than five years ago, on Oct. 21, 2021.

Warren Foegele has scored eight goals and added 10 assists for 18 points in 22 career games against San Jose. All three figures, along with his +14 rating, are the highest against any opponent in his career.

Fabian Zetterlund has potted goals in each of his two career meetings against his former Sharks.
