VAN@SEA: Slap Shot organist, Rod Masters performs

Rod Masters is free to play "Lady of Spain" all he wants now.

As the new organist for the Seattle Kraken, Masters, who 44 years ago played the role of the Charlestown Chiefs organist in the hockey movie classic "Slap Shot," is pretty much free to play whatever he wants.
Masters, whose role in the 1977 raunchy comedy did not have any lines and went uncredited, was famously maligned by Paul Newman's character Reggie Dunlop for playing the organist staple tune. That was one of the brief-but-unforgettable scenes for Masters in the film.
Masters played "O Canada" and "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Climate Pledge Arena on Saturday before the Kraken took on the Vancouver Canucks.
It was Masters' first hockey-related gig in the 44 years since "Slap Shot" was released.
