GD5-mar20-NHL

We've got some pre-game thoughts from Filip Chlapik, Mark Borowiecki, the coach and more before tonight's 7:30 p.m. start against the Panthers.

1. "That's Chlappie"

The Sens swapped centres with Belleville on Monday morning as they recalled Filip Chlapik and reassigned Jim O'Brien to their AHL affiliate. Chlapik has made the trek up and down the 401 a lot this season and this latest recall marks the first year pro's 5th tour of duty in the NHL this year.
"It's near the end of our season so I was really happy that they picked me," Chlapik said about getting the call-up.
Chlapik currently leads the Belleville Senators in scoring this season and it looks lke he'll be put in a position to produce offence tonight as he's set to centre a line with Bobby Ryan and Marian Gaborik. While he's focused on making a good impression this evening, Chlapik understands that the remainder of this season is about continuing to grow and set the table for next year.
"Every day you have to learn something," said Chlapik about his first professional season. "That's what's happening in Belleville. The coaches want to teach you new things to get you ready for the NHL."

2. Dzingel ruled out

Guy Boucher confirmed yesterday that Ryan Dzingel won't be available for the Senators tonight and as a result, a forward is expected to be recalled from Belleville this morning to fill the centre spot a line with Max McCormick and Alex Burrows.
Dzingel left Saturday's game after a scary looking play saw him take a shot off the back of his helmet. Thankfully, it looked worse than it was shared the coach.
"Ryan is doing fine but we're being very cautious," said the coach. "It's not a concussion, we just wanted to wait one more day."
After reviewing the play, Boucher acknowledges that his young winger was very fortunate and had circumstances been even just a little different, he could have been in much worse shape following the play.
"It's Hoffman's shot which is a bullet," Boucher said. "With the protection that he had he was lucky there. If it was just a little lower it probably would have hit him right in the middle of the neck or something so that would not have been a good place."

3. Boro on picking his spots

After suffering a concussion back on November 19th, 2017 against the Rangers that saw him miss over 20 games this season, Mark Borowiecki has said several times that he's going to be pickier about when to drop the gloves. Since returning in mid-January, Borowiecki has received 3 fighting majors and most recently against Dallas' Greg Pateryn last Friday following a massive, clean hit on Tyler Pitlick.
"Those are the ones that I don't mind doing," said Borowiecki about Friday's tussle. "Maybe there needs to be something done about the instigator at some point because I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. Go in chin down and wear a couple just to draw a penalty?"
"If I see a guy coming at me like that I'm going to defend myself," he continued. "But like I said, I don't mind those ones. It's the ones where you're dancing around or you're chasing a guy around the ice…those are the ones that I want to stay away from."

4. Previous meeting

These teams met in Sunrise just 8 days ago where the Sens knocked off the Panthers by a final of 5-3. Matt Duchene and Magnus Paajarvi each picked up a pair of goals in the victory while Craig Anderson was superb, stopping 35 of the 38 shots sent his way to earn the decision.
