Ducks hold on for win against Jets

WINNIPEG-- Rickard Rakell scored his 20th goal and Jonathan Bernier made 31 saves to help the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets at MTS Centre on Monday.
"Obviously it feels good," Rakell said. "It's kind of been going my way this year and I've been trying to roll with it. I'm just going to keep moving forward and take every game as it comes. I want to score every game and I'm not satisfied at all. I want to keep going."
Bernier started in place of John Gibson, who was injured in a 5-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday but served as Bernier's backup in the game.

"I think we got ourselves in trouble with a lot of PKs tonight but we found a way to win a big game on the road," Bernier said.
Logan Shaw and Ryan Getzlaf also scored for the Ducks (27-14-9), who are 4-1-1 in their past six road games.

Andrew Copp and Nikolaj Ehlers scored for the Jets (22-24-4), who failed to win their third straight game for the first time this season, with Monday being their ninth opportunity.
Copp was promoted and played on the right wing with Mark Scheifele and Ehlers with Drew Stafford out because of a lower-body injury.
"It was good for the confidence, I guess," Copp said. "It's nice to start the game the right way, I guess, for me. Like anybody else, you score one early you feel like you've got good jump and ready to go. I thought I just built from there."

Ondrej Pavelec allowed three goals on 27 shots in his first loss in three straight starts after being recalled from Manitoba of the American Hockey League on Jan. 17.
Copp scored to make it 1-0 at 2:14 of the first period, taking a pass from Scheifele in the slot for his sixth goal.
Shaw tied the game 1-1 with the Ducks shorthanded at 4:07 of the first period. Cam Fowler's low shot was saved by Pavelec but Shaw was in position to put the rebound in for his second of the season.
Rakell scored 1:25 later to make it 2-1, picking up a loose puck and shooting short side on Pavelec.
Getzlaf made it 3-1, scoring on the power play at 8:48 of the third period.
Ehlers scored to make it 3-2 at 12:53.

"I thought we played great," Jets forward Blake Wheeler said. "Sometimes the score is not always a good indicator. Just because we lost the game doesn't mean we got our [rear ends] kicked all night. We did a lot of good things."
Jets forward Mathieu Perreault left the game in the first period with an upper-body injury and did not return. Jets coach Paul Maurice said he wouldn't play against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.
Ducks defenseman Sami Vatanen was a late healthy scratch. Defenseman Korbinian Holzer dressed in his place.

Getzlaf scored the game-winning goal on a deft tip in front of Pavelec from Shea Theodore's point shot.

With the Ducks leading 3-2 late in the third period and the Jets net empty, Bernier made a save on Scheifele and another moments later on Adam Lowry.

Highlight of the game

Ehlers picked up the puck in his own end and took it the length of the ice, deking Bernier for his 17th goal of the season.

Unsung performance of the game

Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler had an assist, a shot on goal, a hit and a blocked shot in a team-high 28:29 of ice time.
