Fran Scerbo - Jan. 8 Community Hero

TAMPA BAY -The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Fran Scerbo as the Lightning Community Hero this evening during the first period of tonight's game against the Boston Bruins. Scerbo, who received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, presented by Jabil, will donate the money to Guardian ad Litem Foundation of Tampa Bay.

Scerbo has been an essential part of the Guardian ad Litem Foundation for over 10 years. Since her retirement from her career in business management, she has devoted her time to those in need, specifically children in dependency care. During this time, she has advocated for over 75 children, taking on an average of five cases at a time. Additionally, she has been a passionate advocate and board member for the foundation. She has been instrumental in raising tens of thousands of dollars for Guardian ad Litem Foundation to continue the work they do for children. Scerbo also takes it upon herself to collect thousands of in-kind donations so all kids can experience the joy of opening presents during the holiday season.
The grant tonight will be used to support and expand current programs at Guardian ad Litem Foundation. Guardian ad Litem offers a variety of services and support programs for children in dependency care (foster care, group homes, etc.). They provide basic, medical, and educational resources to ensure these children receive proper care and educational tools to succeed. Additionally, they offer aging out support, including scholarships and life skills courses for those preparing to enter adulthood.
Scerbo became the 470th Lightning Community Hero since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the Lightning Community Hero program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through tonight's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $24.6 million to more than 600 unique nonprofits in the Greater Tampa Bay area. During the summer of 2021, the Viniks announced that the community hero program will give away another $10 million over the next five seasons.
