TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Al Donn as the Lightning Community Hero this evening during the first period of tonight's game against the New York Islanders. Donn, who received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, presented by Jabil, will donate the money to Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful and the Florida Aquarium.

Over the past 27 years, Donn has dedicated his life to caring for our local environment. Working with Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, he has been an integral part of removing over 201,000 pounds of little and debris from entering our waterways. Donn has also spearheaded many environmental projects throughout Tampa Bay, including the restoration of Cypress Point Park. Donn's passion and commitment to the local environment has inspired thousands to also dedicate themselves to environmental activism.
The grant tonight will be used to enhance the missions of Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful and the Florida Aquarium through education and stewardship. Through his dedicated service to the Tampa Bay community, Donn is building a legacy of sustainable living for many generations to follow.
Donn becomes the 459th Lightning Community Hero since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the Lightning Community Hero program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through tonight's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $24 million to more than 750 different nonprofits in the Greater Tampa Bay area. During the summer of 2021, the Viniks announced that the community hero program will give away another $10 million over the next five seasons.
