DAY 12: NELSON AND TEAM USA ADVANCE TO QUARTERFINALS

Brock Nelson and Team USA are headed to the Quarterfinals after a 6-3 win over Latvia on Tuesday to conclude preliminary round play.

Nelson averaged a point-per-game through seven preliminary round games with three goals and four assists. The Islanders center now has 35 points (19G, 16A) through 39 games of tournament action across five career appearances, all with Team USA.

The top four teams in each group (Group A and B) qualify for the Quarterfinals. Team USA finished in second place in Group B with 16 points through preliminary round play with a record of 5-0-1-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L). They outscored opponents 37-16 through seven preliminary round games.

Team USA will play the third seed in Group A (TBD) in the Quarterfinals, set to kick off Thursday.

DAY 10: NELSON AND TEAM USA DOMINATE WITH 10-1 VICTORY

With a two-point performance (1G, 1A) on Sunday, Brock Nelson tied Russell Johnson for the Team USA goal-scoring record with his 19th career tally in a 10-1 win over Kazakhstan.

Nelson’s goal gave Team USA a 3-0 advantage at 16:50 of the first period, while he assisted on Matt Boldy’s tally 4:37 into the contest.

DAY 8: NELSON AND TEAM USA EARN SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

Brock Nelson had a strong outing in the dot on Friday, going 14-for-22 (63.6%) in faceoffs for Team USA in a 4-1 win over Poland.

Team USA is in second place of eight teams in Group B, improving to a record of 3-0-1-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) with two preliminary round games remaining before the quarterfinals.

DAY 7: NELSON AND TEAM USA SHUT OUT FRANCE 

Brock Nelson had a three-point performance (1G, 2A) in a 5-0 win over France on Thursday. 

The center struck 45 seconds into the contest, snapping a shot from the slot to take an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame, which transpired into a four-goal first period for Team USA.

Nelson's line with Johnny Gaudreau and Matt Boldy combined for four goals, as Nelson assisted on each of his linemate's tallies to cap off his three-point period.

DAY 4: TEAM USA DROPS 5-4 OT DECISION TO SLOVAKIA

The United States fell 5-4 to Slovakia in overtime on Monday in their third preliminary round game.

Team USA was down 4-1 after two periods of action and battled back with a three-goal third period to force OT, but Slovakia's Milos Kelemen buried the game-winner at 3:56 of the extra frame.

Brock Nelson did not hit the scoresheet and his two-game point streak (1G, 1A) ended as a result. He took three shots in 21:55 TOI, including a chance in the overtime session.

DAY 2: NELSON NOTCHES ASSIST IN 6-1 WIN

Brock Nelson and Team USA picked up their first win of the IIHF Worlds in dominant fashion with a 6-1 win over Germany on Saturday.

Nelson sent a well-timed pass to Michael Kesselring to take a 2-0 advantage in the first period. The primary helper created a two-game point streak (1G, 1A) for Nelson in the tournament.

DAY 1: NELSON NETS GOAL FOR TEAM USA IN 5-2 LOSS

Brock Nelson found the back of the net for Team USA on Friday in a 5-2 loss to Sweden in the first of seven preliminary round games in the IIHF Men’s World Championship.

Nelson patiently waited for a pass low in the slot and blasted a Johnny Gaudreau feed to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the third period.

Sweden responded with three unanswered goals to take a 5-2 victory. Click here for Friday's box score.

The 32-year-old center skated 19:35, took three shots and centered a line with Gaudreau and Matt Boldy. Nelson now has 17 career goals in 33 games of IIHF action.

Nelson is serving as an alternate captain for Team USA in his fifth appearance at the tournament. He also wore the "A" the last time he participated in 2017.
