NBC Sports Washington (NBCSW) is launching a special Washington Capitals edition of its ongoing Race in America multiplatform content initiative this week, entitled Caps United for Change, beginning today. The roundtable discussion, led by NBCSW's Chris Miller, features current Capitals Braden Holtby, Garnet Hathaway and Brenden Dillon, and alumnus Joel Ward.

Race in America: Caps United for Change will be presented as a five-part daily short-form digital video series on NBCSportsWashington.com - with new episodes published today, Monday, Aug. 17, through Friday, Aug. 21 - and as a 30-minute television special, which will debut on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 6:30 p.m. leading into Caps Pregame Live before Game 4 of the Capitals-Islanders first-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series. The full-length show is also available now on the

Channel.

"Race, equality and justice are critical issues in our society, and having a forum for athletes and other prominent members of the sports community to share their thoughts and experiences is an opportunity to create more awareness and understanding," said NBCSW Sr. VP and General Manager Damon Phillips. "Monumental Sports and Entertainment, its teams and athletes are leading advocates for change and inclusion. We are pleased to partner with them throughout this initiative."

Race in America: Caps United for Change covers a range of topics and issues. As part of the first digital video, available now, the participants talk about their reaction to the death of George Floyd and their thoughts on its impact. Also highlighted: Braden Holtby speaking about how he learned to understand racial issues; Brenden Dillon talking about his observations of racism in both Canada and the U.S.; Joel Ward on his experience with racism in hockey; and Garnet Hathaway on Caps Unite for Change.

NBCSW launched Race in America in July to provide Washington, D.C., area athletes, coaches and sports figures a platform to share their perspectives and promote their advocacy and efforts related to diversity, justice and equality in sports and our society. Previous participants include Natasha Cloud (Mystics), Mike Locksley (University of Maryland), Robert Griffin III (Ravens), Bill Hamid (DC United), Mike London (William & Mary) and Ian Mahinmi (Wizards).
