Teams representing all skill levels from across the region are invited to compete in a pond-hockey style tournament that features cross-rink 3v3 games utilizing mini nets (no goalies) and a street hockey ball. This round-robin, double-elimination tournament will consist of up to 12 teams per skill level, with each team guaranteed at least four games.
The Capitals recognize all adult hockey players as vital members of the area's hockey community. It is through events such as the ball hockey tournament that the Capitals aim to support the community and create valuable connections to expand playing opportunities for hockey groups across the community.
Since 2015, the Capitals have invested over $2.5M in building or refurbishing outdoor street/inline hockey rinks across the Washington, D.C. region, including the facility at Ridge Road Recreational Park. The investment is in partnership with the NHL and NHLPA through the Industry Growth Fund and has seen the completion of 14 outdoor street rinks within the Capitals market. Investments like this provide expanded access to the sport of hockey in all its forms and helps create growth within the sport.
