Capitals Host Salute to the Military Night

The Washington Capitals hosted their 17th annual Salute to the Military Night on Feb. 7 during the game against the Colorado Avalanche at Capital One Arena.
Salute to the Military Night is an evening dedicated to honoring the men and women who have served the country in the armed forces.

More than 500 service members attended Thursday's game. With the support of corporate sponsors the Capitals have provided thousands of complimentary tickets to military personnel and their dependents the past 17 seasons.
The Capitals paid tribute to the military throughout the evening through in-game and intermission activities.

Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation raised $57,350 for United Heroes League and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) through a Military Night auction. During pregame warm-ups the Capitals wore camouflage jerseys, which were signed and auctioned off by Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) Foundation. Additional items in the auction included autographed player-used sticks wrapped in camouflage tape, autographed pucks and a framed, team military night puck set with a puck signed by each player and coach.
After the game American Caps players John Carlson, Phoenix Copley, Matt Niskanen, Brooks Orpik and T.J. Oshie met with more than 30 TAPS family members.

M. Sgt. Caleb Green (Ret.) and Sgt. Major Bob McDonald performed the national anthem. The Capitals youth hockey flag tunnel and mites on ice were comprised of players from Navy Youth Hockey. The second intermission featured the USA Warriors sled hockey team in a skills exhibition.

Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors
The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) is the leading national organization providing compassionate care and survivor support services for the families of America's fallen military heroes.
