CLEVELAND MONSTERS

CLEVELAND MONSTERS

The AHL affiliate of the Blue Jackets is 13-5-1 in its last 19 games after a big win Friday vs. league-leading Grand Rapids, though Cleveland did drop a pair of other contests.

The week started Tuesday with a morning contest at Toronto, which the Marlies won 7-4 despite two goals from Roman Ahcan and tallies from Luca Del Bel Belluz and Brendan Gaunce. Cleveland then returned home Friday to take on the best team in the AHL and posted a 3-2 win, with Luca Marrelli scoring the winner in the third period and Del Bel Belluz and Gaunce tallying. The Griffins replied, though, with a 3-1 victory Saturday in which Ahcan had the lone Monsters goal.

The Monsters are now 30-19-6-1, good for third in the AHL North with 16 games togo. AHL All-Star Del Bel Belluz has a 6-15-21 line in the last 19 games, while Jack Williams has four overtime winners this year while posting an 11-16-27 line in a team-high 53 contests. Captain Gaunce had a 10-game point streak (4-10-14) snapped Saturday.

Cleveland hits the road to play at Hartford this week, with games Wednesday and Friday.
