The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled center Kevin Stenlund from the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, as well as assigned goaltender Jean-Francois Berube and left wing Eric Robinson to the AHL team, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Stenlund, 22, has registered nine goals and seven assists for 16 points with 10 penalty minutes and 79 shots in 33 games with the Monsters this season. He ranks fourth on the club in goals (tied) and shots. A native of Huddinge, Sweden, he made his North American pro debut at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, recording 0-2-2 and four penalty minutes in seven contests with Cleveland. The 6-4, 210-pound center began the season with HV71 in the Swedish Hockey League, setting career highs in assists and points and finishing second on the club in game-winning goals (four) with 7-15-22, 28 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in 43 outings. The Blue Jackets' second, second round selection, 58th overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft posted 22-23-45 and 66 penalty minutes in 151 career SHL games with HV71 from 2014-18.
Robinson, 23, made his Blue Jackets season debut on January 5 at Florida and collected three shots while averaging 12:41 of ice time in three games. He has added 10-9-19 six penalty minutes, a +3 plus/minus rating and 55 shots in 33 appearances with the Monsters this season. The Bellmawr, New Jersey native, who signed a two-year entry level contract with the Blue Jackets on March 26, 2018, collected two shots and a +1 plus/minus rating in his NHL debut in the team's 2017-18 regular season finale on April 7 at Nashville. Prior to turning pro, he notched 39-28-67 and 74 penalty minutes in 128 career games at Princeton University (ECAC) from 2014-18. In his senior campaign in 2017-18, the 6-2, 200-pound winger set career highs with 17-14-31 and 44 penalty minutes in 36 games while serving as team captain.
Berube, 27, has gone 9-10-4 with a 3.39 goals-against average (GAA) and .898 save percentage (SV%) in 34 career NHL games with the New York Islanders and Chicago Blackhawks. This season, he is 11-10-3 with a 2.94 GAA and .899 SV% in 24 AHL outings with Cleveland. In 149 career AHL games, he has compiled a record of 89-48-7, 2.40 GAA, .912 SV% with eight shutouts, appeared in the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic and helped Manchester win the Calder Cup championship that same year. The Repentigny, Quebec native was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round, 95th overall, in the 2009 NHL Draft.
